A vocal talent competition designed to shine the spotlight on area singers
will take place on Saturday, May 5, 2012, at the Dr. Pepper Stage, located at Kay Rodgers
Park in Fort Smith, AR. The Old Fort Days Super Star Contest, the official kickoff for the
rodeo, will give local singers the opportunity to sing “The National Anthem” at this year's
Old Fort Days Rodeo.
“Any soloist can tryout at this great event”, says Pam Carter, member of the Old Fort Days
Super Star Contest committee. “Each person who enters will have a few seconds to give their best rendition of the National Anthem to a panel of qualified judges.” The judges will then select 10 finalists to perform the Anthem in its entirety. Five (5) winners will be selected to perform the National Anthem during the Old Fort Days Rodeo, which takes place May 28th through June 2nd at Kay Rodgers Park. “Those winners will also be scheduled to perform on the Dr. Pepper Stage at Kay Rodgers Park the night of their National Anthem performance".
Registration will take place from 8am to 9am and the official contest will begin shortly after that. The contest is open to all ages, but for soloists, only. Just remember, "don’t forget the words!” said Carter.
The public is encouraged to attend and cheer for their favorite contestant. Refreshments will be available. Cavender's Western Outfitters, 7605 Rogers Avenue, Fort Smith, Arkansas, is the official sponsor of this event.
Performers can pick up the official rules at Cavender's Western Outfitters or they can view
and download the rules online at www.kayrodgerspark.com.
