KHBS/KHOG-TV, The Arkansas CW and the American Red Cross in Arkansas asked for viewers help and they responded by pledging over
$ 15,000 to the Outreach For Oklahoma tornado relief drive. Funds raised will benefit those in areas impacted by the Oklahoma tornado.
“I’m so proud to be a member of this generous community,” said KHBS/KHOG-TV and The Arkansas CW President and General Manager, Brian Sather. “I proudly speak for our entire staff and the great team from the American Red Cross in Arkansas when I say thank you everyone for helping our neighbors in need.”

KHBS/KHOG-TV, The Arkansas CW and the American Red Cross in Arkansas will be holding a disaster relief drive, Outreach For Oklahoma, on Thursday, May 23, 2013. Funds raised will benefit those in areas impacted by the Oklahoma tornado.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with our neighbors in Oklahoma,” said KHBS/KHOG-TV and The Arkansas CW President and General Manager, Brian Sather. “It is important that we do all we can to support the organizations providing desperately needed supplies and services to those devastated by the storm.”

Graduating seniors from the College of Business at the University of Arkansas - Fort Smith scored in the top 20 percent in a national assessment test, with six UAFS students scoring in the top 10 percent internationally.

BOST, a non-profit organization that provides opportunities for children and adults with disabilities, hosted a Groundbreaking Ceremony for their new Life Bridge facility, The Jones Center. The Groundbreaking was held on Friday, April 26th.
This housing expansion will be a quad-plex at Chaffee Crossing, on Wells Lake Road adjacent to the existing Bost Lifebridge housing. This facility will house adults with disabilities so they may experience independence with guidance from a Bost staff member.

Jim Grizzle Tire Company had a celebration on Thursday, May 9th to mark their 50th Anniversary in business. Joining the Grizzle family was a very special guest, Mario Andretti, world champion racecar driver. Mr. Andretti had the honor of cutting the ribbon during the ceremony (see photo).

Suite Staffing Services has organized a city wide scavenger hunt. This is organized as a summer kick-off event, and is open to city wide participation! Anyone who wants to enter the competition can by rsvp’ing with Suite Staffing. There will be prizes for the top teams as well as prizes for finding secret items during the hunt. There is no cost to participate. It will start at 10 pm on June 7th, and end at 6 am on June 8th.

State Sen. Jake Files gave graduates at the University of Arkansas - Fort Smith commencement exercises May 11 four pieces of advice to help them make an impact on themselves and their world.
“I am probably not going to tell you anything you don’t already know or haven’t already heard,” he said. “What I hope is different is that you realize the opportunity you have to make a difference and the role you play in so many different ways.”

The Family Enterprise Center at the University of Arkansas - Fort Smith is sponsoring a program on “Business Killers” for a 7:30 a.m. breakfast meeting May 21.
Guest speaker is Thomas A. Alexander of Rogers, sales vice president for Capitas Distributors. Registration fee is $20 for non-members of the FEC. There is no charge for members. Registration deadline is May 17.

The Fort Smith regional economy continues to have its bright spots, according to the report released May 1 by the Center for Business Research and Economic Development (CBRED) at the University of Arkansas - Fort Smith.
While the Monthly Economic Indicators Index report for March revealed another mixed performance by the area economy, there were signs of continued improvement in the latest report, according to Dr. Kermit Kuehn of Fort Smith, CBRED director. The overall Economic Activity Index for January of 95.5 was unchanged from a year ago.

The University of Arkansas - Fort Smith announced on April 23 that it accepted an invitation to join the Northwest Arkansas Education Consortium, a year-old organization focused on improving college graduation and retention rates.
UAFS becomes the sixth higher education institution working through the consortium to support Graduate NWA (www.GraduateNWA.com), a program and website focused on helping Arkansas residents with some academic credit finish college degrees. The consortium has other objectives such as improving student retention.
