FORT SMITH/FAYETTEVILLE, ARKANSAS, December 7, 2010 – Jay Plyburn joins 40/29 News as anchor/reporter. Plyburn will anchor 40/29 news at 5:30, 6:00 and 10:00 p.m. on weekends and report for 40/29 news and 4029tv.com.
Plyburn served as an anchor/reporter for KMID-TV in Midland, Texas, since 2008. Plyburn is an accomplished multi-media journalist, regularly writing, shooting and editing news stories while also occasionally filling-in as a weather and sports anchor. Plyburn was KMID’s lead reporter during a recent national news story when an armed Odessa, Texas man held fifty law enforcement agencies at bay for nearly twenty-four hours during a tense shootout.
A graduate of Marshall University in Huntington, West Virginia, Plyburn began his career as a news and weather anchor for the university’s radio station, while also reporting and anchoring for Marshall University’s television station. One of Plyburn’s thrills while in college was playing an extra in the feature film, “We Are Marshall”.
“Jay’s many talents, and his passion for telling great stories will bolster both our weekday and weekend news coverage,” said Brian Sather, KHBS/KHOG President and General Manager. “I’m delighted Jay will be joining our newsroom,” said 40/29 TV’s News Director, Dawn Dugle. “Jay’s contributions will help us immediately expand our already thorough local news coverage to both Fort Smith and Northwest Arkansas viewers.”
Plyburn is looking forward to getting involved with local theatre, local churches, and community events, plus as an avid mountain biker, he’s thrilled to be moving to an area known for its great trails, hiking and camping.
